The On Tops Roofing crew did an excellent job replacing our rubber roof. All members of the team that I encountered were professional and friendly. They were on time and cleaned up all debris. I would highly recommend them!!!
Best Metal Roofing Company in Raleigh & Cary, NC
For most homes, a metal roof is the last roof you will ever buy. It also costs more than asphalt and comes with more decisions. We will walk your roof and show you the options that fit it, then put a firm price in writing before you commit to anything. We install standing seam and exposed fastener on homes across the Triangle and Wilmington.

Let’s Talk About Your Metal Roof
Every roof is different, so a price range you find online will only take you so far. We would rather come out and take a look, then give you real numbers for your home. There is no pressure or obligation. You get a straight answer and a written price you can hold us to.
- Free on-site inspection and measurement
- Panel and color samples brought to your home
- A written price, not a range
- An honest comparison against a new asphalt roof
- Most estimates scheduled within 48 hours

Very pleased with our experience with On Tops Roofing. The team was very professional, timely and the communication was great. The crew cleaned up so well, you would have never known they were there - other than the new roof on our building. Would highly recommend On Tops Roofing.
Everyone was very prompt and friendly, good communication and our roof looks great! Also one of the more reasonable quotes we received despite them being highly professional and using modern features (drone capture images, online portal payment, etc).

Our Certifications and Awards
On Tops Roofing is a licensed General Contractor in North Carolina. We also hold active certifications from GAF and CertainTeed, two of North America’s leading roofing manufacturers. We earned these credentials through performance and did not purchase them.
NC Licensed General Contractor
On Tops Roofing holds a valid North Carolina General Contractor’s License. To get an NC GC license you have to demonstrate expertise and carry active insurance and bonding. We are licensed to do roofing and exterior work throughout North Carolina, and that includes the larger metal projects a roofing-only contractor cannot take on.

GAF Master Elite Contractor
On Tops Roofing is a GAF Master Elite contractor. That is an invite-only designation, and fewer than 2% of roofing contractors in North America hold it. We have also earned the GAF President’s Club and Triple Excellence awards for outstanding installation performance.

CertainTeed ShingleMaster Contractor
On Tops Roofing is a CertainTeed ShingleMaster contractor. CertainTeed awards ShingleMaster to contractors who show superior installation of its roofing systems. Our installers also hold their own CertainTeed Master Shingle Applicator certifications.
Two Metal Roof Options for Your Home
What separates the two is where the screws go. Standing seam hides its fasteners under raised seams, so nothing punctures the surface of the panel. Exposed fastener panels (often called corrugated) screw right through the face of the metal. We install both, on jobs as small as a single porch roof and on buildings over 10,000 square feet.

Standing Seam
Each panel is a single piece that runs down your roof, ridge to edge. The panels lock together into a raised seam, and the clips holding them down sit under that seam, out of the weather. Since nothing screws through the surface, you have no holes to seal and no washers that can dry out.
If you plan to stay in your home, this is the roof to buy, because it lasts the longest and has the fewest parts that can fail.
- Lifespan
- 50 years or more
- Fasteners
- Hidden clips, nothing through the panel face
- Metals
- Aluminum or steel, in several thicknesses
- Profiles
- Snap-lock, mechanically seamed, and nail strip
Best for homes you plan to keep, farmhouse and modern looks, low-slope roofs, and coastal homes where salt air is a factor.

Exposed Fastener
The panels overlap side to side and screw down through the face of the metal, and a rubber washer under each screw seals the hole. It goes on faster than standing seam and is much more affordable.
The screws are the part to watch. Their washers dry out over time, so every 10 to 15 years they need checking and usually replacing, which is a small job when it is done on schedule.
- Lifespan
- 25 to 40 years, with screw upkeep
- Fasteners
- Screws through the panel, sealed with washers
- Metals
- Painted or bare steel, 26 and 29 gauge
- Profiles
- Corrugated, ribbed, and 5V
Best for porches, additions, garages and outbuildings, rental property, and budgets that still want metal.
If you are not sure which one fits your house, that is the normal place to start. We bring samples of both so you can see and hold the difference before you decide.
Already Have a Metal Roof That Needs Work?
Most metal roofs that leak can be fixed at the screws, the sealant, or the flashing without being replaced. We do this work every week. Some jobs are a handful of screws on a porch, and some are panel replacement on buildings over 10,000 square feet.
- Screw and gasket replacement
- Sealant renewed at pipes, vents, and skylights
- Panel repair and replacement
- Flashing repairs at walls, chimneys, and valleys
- Storm damage, documented for your insurer
- Leak diagnosis when nobody else can find the source
Choose Your Color and Finish
You are not stuck with a short list. Along with standard colors, you can get deep matte blacks, weathered zinc, copper tones, and custom matches for an HOA rule or your window trim. If you have seen a roof you like, show us a photo and we will find the panel.
- Charcoal Gray
- Matte Black
- Slate Gray
- Regal White
- Sandstone
- Medium Bronze
- Dark Bronze
- Burnished Slate
- Hartford Green
- Colonial Red
- Weathered Zinc
- Copper Metallic
Metal roofing comes in many colors, and the swatches above are only a starting point. The choice matters more than most homeowners expect, because the roof is the largest single color on your house. We will help you pick one that works with your home and its siding and trim, and with the look you are going for.
